STRUT! is a community procession showcasing the expressions and collaborations of over thirty of Madison's creative and cultural groups through stilt walking, dance, music, design, puppetry, and more. With special guests The Brooklyn Jumbies and Bently Spang.

* Laura Anderson Barbata and the Brooklyn Jumbies will be signing copies of Transcommunality: Interventions and Collaborations in Stilt Dancing Communities, available on Amazon.com. A small number of books will be available at the event for purchase by cash or check, however we recommend you purchase a book in advance and bring it along with you to ensure you get a copy.
Note: In the event of rain, STRUT! will be held in the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (CRSC), also known as The Shell. The CRSC is located at 1430 Monroe Street, adjacent to Camp Randall Stadium.
STRUT! has grown out of the Laura Anderson Barbata's Spring 2015 course in "Community Arts Practice." For the past three months, Barbata and her students have been facilitating collaborations among groups on and off campus through weekly Community Conversations and community outreach.

Community Stilt and Ground-dancing Jams!
Goodman Community Center, 149 Waubesa St. Madison | Sundays, April 12, 19 and 26 | 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Come and dance! Stilt-dancers and Ground-dancers are welcome! These sessions are in preparation for “STRUT!” on May 2! We’ll crank the Afro-Carribean tunes and get moving, building our stamina and get used to dancing together. Costume fittings may happen as well. You don’t have to be participating in STRUT! to join the fun, but you DO need to furnish your own equipment.
Cost: Suggested donation of $10 per participant.

Adult Swim: Word Freaks

Celebrate National Poetry Month along with everything that is wonderful about words, at the first Adult Swim open to adults age 18 and over. Music by Flowpoetry, word game tournaments, and DIY magnetic poetry. Enjoy all of the museum’s great exhibits without having to share with the kiddos. Get ready for STRUT! by participating in workshops for mask making, zebra head masks, and t-shirt printing with Laura Anderson Barbata. Grown-up beverages available for purchase (ages 21 and up with ID); soda and pizza available for purchase by everyone.
Giant Puppet Workshop
Madison Children's Museum | Sunday, April 19 | 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Learn how to make a giant puppet using recycled materials and simple construction techniques. We will create giant puppet figures for a community arts procession on May 2 called STRUT!, led by UW-Madison visiting artist Laura Anderson Barbata. In this class, you can see techniques demonstrated for creating your own larger than life figures from cardboard and recycled materials. Hands on demonstrations, instructional materials and some supplies will be provided. This class is free and intended for adults and children 9 and older with adult supervision.
