A delightful method of writing that is accessible to anyone with a wish to write or remember. Participants will learn a reliable, quick way to write satisfying stories without a lot of struggle. All you need is your favorite pencil and a notebook.

Lynda Barry will be talking with Ivan Brunetti about myopia, the power of drawing by hand, how to teach cartooning to people who badly want to make comics but feel they can’t draw, and what it has to do with making of a perfect dish of spaghetti aglio e olio. With special guest Chris Ware.

Lynda Barry talks with writer Ryan Knighton about a different kind of seeing and about travel memoir called “Nothing to See Here: Around the World in Four Senses.” Lynda describes Ryan as “author, screen-writer, teacher, and bad ass blind guy!”

The Friendship that Would Not Die: Lynda Barry on Matt Groening

Lynda Barry speaks about her 35 year friendship with The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and the contribution his weekly comic strip Life in Hell made to alt comics history. Lynda promises “It will NOT be boring!!”

TICKETS REQUIRED: Free tickets are available at MMoCA’s lobby desk beginning at noon on Friday, March 2. Tickets are limited to two per person; no telephone or internet reservations, please. Museum hours are noon to 8 pm on Friday, 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, and noon to 5 pm on Sunday. UPDATE: All tickets have been distributed. Empty seats will be opened up for walk-ups 10 minutes before the start of the event (6:50pm). Also, there will be a live feed and 75 seats plus standing room in the lobby of the museum.

Writer and teacher Dan Chaon reads from “Stay Awake,” his new book of short stories, and talks with Lynda Barry about ghosts and how they get around in the image world. Lynda says that “Dan Chaon is one of the best writers of our time. His work will blow your mind!!!”
